Boys & Girls

The Torah helps us understand the proper order of things that G-d wants. But the whole world doesn't follow Torah, and sometimes they get confused.

Imagine G-d is like a master painter. He has a huge canvas, and on this canvas, He decides to create the most wonderful painting ever. This painting is so special because it includes every single one of us. Everything and everyone has their own special place and color in G-d's grand painting. Every person is like a unique brush stroke in this painting. Some strokes are blue, some are pink, and all of them together make the painting complete and beautiful. G-d carefully chooses where to place each stroke, making sure that every color and line is just perfect for His masterpiece.

Sometimes, people might feel like they're supposed to be a different color or in a different part of the painting. They might feel like a blue stroke in a pink area or a pink stroke in a blue area. This can make them feel confused and unsure about where they fit in the painting.

But remember, G-d doesn't make mistakes. He creates each of us exactly how He wants us to be, perfect and special for His grand design. Just like you wouldn't want someone to paint over your beautiful artwork, G-d wants us to trust that He made us just right, exactly how He planned. It's sad that some people think they don't belong because they can't see their place in the painting. If they were able to see the whole painting, they'd see how perfect they are just as G-d made them. If everyone was the same color and in the same place in the painting, it wouldn't be beautiful anymore. Sometimes, the pinks and blues are different shades, like a girl who likes trucks might be a different shade of pink than a girl who likes barbies - but they are both still pink. Our differences are what make the painting beautiful. If you start changing each stroke to a different color, the painting will stop looking beautiful.

When you dress up like a firefighter, you wear a helmet and a big coat, and when you dress up like a doctor, you might wear a white coat and carry a doctor's bag. Just like that, boys and girls wear different clothes because each has a different role to play. A glove doesn't fit on a foot, and a shoe doesn't really work on a hand, right? That's because they're made especially for one or the other, just like how G-d made boys and girls with their own special roles. Imagine if your hand decided it wanted to be a foot. It would be really hard to walk! Imagine if your foot wanted to be a hand? Could you imagine how difficult it would be to open a bag of chips? In the same way, when boys try to be girls or girls try to be boys, they miss out on doing the special jobs G-d has for them. Boys have certain mitzvot, like wearing tzitzit, and girls have their special mitzvot, like lighting Shabbat candles. These mitzvot help us connect to G-d in our own special way and make us part of His beautiful painting.

Remember, you are a very special part of G-d's grand plan just the way G-d made you. Boys and girls are all equally important to G-d. Like two sides of the same coin, neither is better or more important than the other. Girls are made to be girls, and boys are made to be boys. And every boy and girl is designed by G-d specifically to carry out a special goal. By being the best you can be, you make the world a brighter, more beautiful place. Let's all work together, hand in hand, building a future filled with joy and blessings for everyone. If you ever feel confused or unsure, you can always talk to your parents or rabbi who can help remind you of how special and perfect you are, just the way G-d made you. When everyone does their part, we can accomplish great things together!
